Education is a vital ingredient in San Antonio's future which directly contributes to the human capital of our city and state. There are 21 independent school districts within the city, three magnet schools, more than 100 private and parochial schools, and a supportive home-schooling community. With variety of accredited universities and colleges offering degrees in all major fields of study, the city has a diverse roster of institutions. Higher education is an investment that results in long-term economic benefits, including productivity and earning gains of an educated workforce; new products and services that come from research and development; a supply of skilled professionals to meet labor market demands; and an improvement in the quality of the workforce and environment.
